Module 1:  Introduction to Password Station

What Is Password Station?

Password Station is IEEE’s Self-Service password reset utility.  It enables IEEE staff to reset & change their passwords on a variety of supported IEEE business systems, eliminating the need to call the Help Desk for assistance.  Password Station also enables staff to unlock their IEEE Domain account if it has been locked out.

What passwords can be reset with Password Station?

Currently, Password Station allows staff to reset passwords for the IEEE Windows Domain Logon and for the Google Apps Account (Google Mail, Calendar, Docs, Drive…etc)

Who can currently use Password Station?

Currently, Password Station is available for all IEEE Staff, including:

·         Operations Center

·         Standards & History Centers

·         3 Park Ave/Communication Society

·         IEEE-USA

·         Computer Society

·         Global offices that connect to the IEEE domain

Password Station is available from any computer that has internet access and does not require you to be on the IEEE network or VPN.

Module 2: Login & First Time User Enrollment

To use Password Station for the first time, you must complete an enrollment process.  This process asks you to answer a series of questions that will verify your identity when you login to Password Station to change/reset your password or unlock your account.

  1. At the main Password Station page, enter your IEEE Windows Domain User ID (the id you use to log into your computer).  This will serve as your Primary Account in Password Station.  When complete, click the “Continue” button to move forward to the Enrollment process.

  1. The next screen will explain that it is necessary to enroll in order to use Password Station.  Click the “Continue” button to begin the enrollment.
  2. You will then be asked to supply your Primary Domain Logon password.  Again, this is your IEEE Windows Domain User ID & password.  Once you input this information, click the “Continue” button.

  1. Complete the enrollment process by selecting questions and typing in your answers.  Click “Continue” to move forward.

  1. Click “Continue” when you see the message indicating you have successfully enrolled.  This will bring you to the Self-Service Page where you can manage your accounts.

Module 3:  Forgot Your Password?

From the main self-service page, you can reset your password if you have forgotten it.  The following steps will show you how to reset a forgotten password.

  1. Click the “Forgot Password” button under the section “Forgot Your Password?”
  2. You will then be asked to answer each identity question you completed during enrollment.
  3. Answer each question and click “Continue.”
  4. If you answered all questions correctly, you will be brought to the “Reset Forgotten Password” screen where you will enter your new password, confirm it, and click the “Continue” button to move forward.

  1. You will see a Green check mark next to all successfully reset system passwords.  Click “Continue” to return to the main Self-Service page, or “Sign out” to sign out.

Module 4:  Unlock Account

From the main page, you can unlock your IEEE Domain Account if it has become locked out.  The following steps will show you how to unlock your account:

  1. Click the “unlock account” button under the “Unlock Account” section.
  2. Answer the identity questions you completed during the enrollment process.
  3. Check/Uncheck the systems for which you need to unlock your account and click ‘Continue.’  (Hint:  For now, the only account you will need to unlock is your IEEE Domain Account).

  1. The next page will display confirmation of the unlocked account.  Click “Continue” to go back to the main page or “Sign out” to exit your session.

Module 5:  Change Password

From the main self-service page, you can also change your password at anytime.  The following steps will show you how change your password for any of the supported systems:

  1. Click the “change password” button under the “Unlock Account” section.
  2. Answer the identity questions you completed during the enrollment process.
  3. Check/Uncheck the systems for which you want to change your password and click ‘Continue.’  (Hint:  The IEEE Domain account will be checked by default since this is your primary Password Station account).

  1. Enter your old password, new password, and confirmation of the new password.  Click ‘continue.’  (Note:  If you are changing your password across multiple systems, please allow time for the password change to take effect on all systems.  You will see a ‘please wait’ icon indicating the change is occurring).

  1. Verify the password has been changed successfully on the confirmation screen and click “Continue” to go back to the main page or “Sign Out” to end your session.

Module 6:  Account Information

You can also use Password Station to view information relative to your accounts.  For example, it will display information pertaining to your IEEE Domain account such as the age of your password, when it will be due to be changed…etc.  This is only available for certain systems.  Follow the below steps to see your account information:

  1. Click the “account info” button under the “Account Information” section.
  2. Answer the identity questions you completed during the enrollment process.
  3. Check/Uncheck the systems for which you want to view your account info and click ‘Continue.’

  1. The next screen will show you all pertinent information relative to the supported system accounts.  Click “continue” to return to the main page or “Sign out” to end your session.

Module 7:  Test New Password

The IEEE has password policies in effect to ensure the security of our systems.  Before changing a password in Password Station, you also have the ability to test the new password you want to use before actually changing it.  By testing your password first, you are ensuring that it meets all security criteria and is an allowable password.  Password enforcement of this type is currently used for IEEE Domain Accounts.

Follow the below steps to test a password you wish to change:

  1. Click the “test password” button under the “Test New Password” section.
  2. Answer the identity questions you completed during the enrollment process.
  3. Enter the new password you would like to use and click the ‘test’ button.

  1. If the password test has failed, you will see an error message on the next screen indicating why it failed, as shown in the below image.  You will need to choose a new password and try again.  If the password meets all the security criteria, you will see a message indicating the test was successful.  If the test was successful, you may use that as your new password.

Module 8:  Change Enrollment

You can at any time change your enrollment questions in Password Station.  To do this, follow the below steps:

  1. Click the “enroll now” button under the “Change Enrollment” section.
  2. Enter your primary IEEE Domain Password for verification.
  3. Change your enrollment questions/answers as necessary and click ‘Continue.’
  4. The next screen will display a message indicating you’ve successfully enrolled in Password Station.  Click ‘Continue’ to return to the main page.

Module 9:  Stuck at the IEEE Domain Login Screen?

If you have started up your computer and are at the IEEE Domain Logon screen but have either forgotten your password, or have been locked out, there is now an easy way to log yourself onto the Domain.

Click the “Forgot Password” button at the login screen.  You will then be re-directed to the Password Station website to unlock your account.

Alternatively, you can login using a generic “help” account and then use Password Station to reset your password or unlock your account.  The generic “help” account launches a secure browser that lets you do nothing more than use Password station to reset/unlock your account.  When you have finished resetting/unlocking your account, you will close the secure browser and your computer will logoff and return to the login screen where you will be able to successfully login to your own account.

Follow the below steps to use the generic “help” account to access the IEEE Domain:

  1. At the IEEE Domain Logon screen, you will be prompted to hit “CTRL-ALT-DEL” to logon.  Hit this key combination to be presented with the login credentials window.
  2. In the User Name field, type:  help
  3. Leave the password field blank.
  4. Click the “OK” button to login.  You will be redirected to the Password Station website where you can follow the steps listed in the previous modules to reset/unlock your account.
  5. When finished using Password Station to correct your account, click the “Close” button in the top right corner.  Your PC will automatically log off and bring you back to the logon screen.
  6. Remove the “help” user name from the user name field and replace it with your IEEE Domain User Name.  Then enter your password and login to the IEEE Domain as yourself.
